Elements of Spatial Configuration

“Elements of Spatial Configuration of an Informal Settlement” is a field work at the delta of river Evros in Greece. It focuses on the analysis of an informal settlement located in the southern east side of the river’s delta. This project is part of my MArch thesis at the School of Architecture, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.

Project Description

The delta constitutes an internationally known wetland protected by Ramsar and Natura2000. Specifically, the Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli Forest National Park is one of the most important protected areas at national, European and international scale. The results from my field work consist of three parts. First, I produced >100 original photographs and topographic maps. Second, I produced spatial configuration and materials analysis of 17 units in the south-east area of the delta. And third, I developed custom software that simulate and visualize daily human spatial activity in open space.

In this project I translate aspects of the spatial configuration of the settlements into computational procedures. Thereafter, I develop a software tool for future design initiation in the area of interest.

See also my portfolio item on the computational simulation of human spatial activity on the delta.

Press and Exhibition

Project was on view at the Boston Architectural College Faculty Exhibit in February-May, 2018, in Boston, MA, USA, and at the Exhibition Space of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.
