Alexandros Haridis - Headshot

Alexandros Haridis (Αλέξανδρος Χαρίδης) is a designer, computer scientist, and licensed architect, trained both in architecture and computer science. He conducts research and teaches in the area of design computation as a faculty member of Harvard University’s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, with a joint affiliation with the Department of Architecture of the Graduate School of Design. He is also a faculty affiliate of the Harvard Data Science Initiative and metaLAB@Harvard – Berkman Klein Center. Alex received a PhD in Architecture: Design and Computation (2022) as a Presidential Fellow, and dual Master of Science (2017) in Architecture Studies and Computer Science, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on the interface of computation with architecture, design, and human intelligence, and has been supported by a number of fellowships and awards. He has published several articles on computational design, shape grammars and the mathematics of form, critical studies on 20th-century aesthetics in architecture, digital culture and design knowledge production, and on architecture’s role in AI research.

His professional and creative work is characterized by a diversity in scale, medium, and technique always interrogating the boundaries of his own work in relation to that of other disciplines. He has worked as an architect and architectural consultant in Greece and in the U.S., and as a research scientist on applications of computing and AI technology in the built environment and in digital manufacturing. He exhibits creative work internationally, some of which were showcased at the Venice Biennale of Architecture, IASS Expo Pavilions, Biennial of Young Artists in Europe, and the Benaki and Byzantine Culture Museums.
